Individual Bankruptcy

Bankruptcy laws offer relief to individuals who find themselves in financial difficulty.  This relief is known as a “ fresh start.”  Different chapters of bankruptcy offer different types of relief, and when I meet with you, I will help you determine which chapter, if any, is right for you.

During the consultation, we will discuss your income, your financial obligations and your asset structure.  Therefore, you should bring the following documentation(s) when we meet.

  1. Proof of all sources of income
  2. A list of everyone to whom you owe money, including debt you have co-signed or guaranteed
  3. A list of your assets
  4. Copies of any lawsuits or judgments filed or taken against you
  5. Consultation Paperwork
    1. Means Test
    2. Bankruptcy Information Sheet

The purpose of the consultation is to educate you on the personal bankruptcy process.  In other words, what can you expect before, during and after you file bankruptcy?  The consultation will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions regarding any concerns you may have about bankruptcy.  There are a lot of myths circulating about bankruptcy and my job is to help you learn the truth, so that you will be able to make an informed decision.
